Highlander composer GEORGE KALLIS scores "SCREWED"


    George Kallis scores Screwed

    Film composer George Kallis has been brought on board to compose the music for the upcoming prison film Screwed directed by Reg Traviss, and starring James D'Arcy (Master and Commander) and Bafta award winner Noel Clarke (Centurion, Adulthood). The movie is based on the best selling book by Ronnie Thompson and explores the life of UK prison-guards aka “Screws” and what really goes on behind bars. It will be distributed by Lionsgate and is currently scheduled for theatrical release in June 2011 in the UK.




    George Kallis is a new generation composer who has also composed the music for Traviss’ WWII drama Joy Division. George also composed music for Highlander The Source, the Danish blockbuster comedy Julefrokosten, and the upcoming thriller Dry Run starring Diora Baird and Max Ryan. His music is usually recognized by lush, lyrical orchestrations mixed with ethno-musicological influences.

    Back in the 1990s, the Scream franchise helped reinvigorate a dying genre as dozens of onscreen teens lost their lives to masked killers. Now, a fourth film in the series is sure to tickle and terrify just like its three predecessors. Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), now the author of a self-help book, returns home to Woodsboro on the last stop of her book tour. There she reconnects with Sheriff Dewey (David Arquette) and Gale (Courteney Cox), who are now married, as well as her cousin Jill (Emma Roberts) and her Aunt Kate (Mary McDonnell). Unfortunately, Sidney's appearance also brings about the return of Ghostface, putting Sidney, Gale, and Dewey. along with Jill, her friends, and the whole town of Woodsboro in danger.

The brainchild of composer Christopher Lennertz, the Symphony is musical fundraising project designed to help the people of Haiti in their desperate time of need.

MARK ISHAM - the conspirator (2011) (CD)

    MIM Records has announced that Mark Isham’s score for Robert Redford’s drama The Conspirator will be released in three different editions. The score features cello solos by Zöe Keating and was recorded with Czech National Orchestra in Prague. The (s)Edition contains 16 tracks of highlights from Isham’s score from the film. 

     The Complete Collector’s Edition includes all 38 tracks from the movie including cues not used in the final version of the film. For audio clips and to buy the album, visit Isham’s webpage or Amazon. 

    Exclusively available in Isham’s online store is a two disc limited edition with both editions of the score signed by Mark Isham. All editions will be released on April 5, 2011. The Conspirator centers around Mary Surratt, the lone female charged as a co-conspirator in the assassination trial of Abraham Lincoln. The movie stars Robin Wright Penn, James McAvoy, Alexis Bledel, Evan Rachel Wood, Kevin Kline, Danny Huston, Justin Long and Tom Wilkinson and is scheduled to open in theaters on April 15. New THOMAS NEWMAN project - THE HELP (2011) (CD)



    Thomas Newman is currently writing the score for the upcoming drama The Help. The movie is based on the best-selling novel by Kathryn Stockett about the conflicted and complex relationships between Southern women and their housekeepers at the beginning of the civil rights movement. In the film, an aspiring writer in 1960s Mississippi  sets out to write a book chronicling the way black maids are being treated by society. The movie stars stars Emma Stone, Allison Janney, Sissy Spacek, Viola David, Bryce Dallas Howard, Mike Vogel and Cicely Tyson. The Help is directed by Tate Taylor who made his directorial feature debut on 2008′s Pretty Ugly People.

Symphony of Hope: The Haiti Project



    The Haiti Project

    'Symphony of Hope' is a musical fundraising project which was originally designed to help the people of Haiti in their desperate time of need. A year after the terrible earthquake which has destroyed the lives of thousands of Haitians, the need for assistance is even greater than ever. 'Symphony of Hope' is a collaboration by 25 of today's leading Oscar, Tony, Grammy and Emmy winning composers to benefit Haiti Earthquake Relief. The 'Symphony of Hope' begins with an original Haitian melody, then each composer contributes an additional 8-32 bars of music to the piece and then passes it along to the next composer. This is symbolic in the way that one lending hand passes on to another lending hand and so on and eventually a beautiful outcome is derived. 

    The Haiti Project' will be recording on March 26, 2011 at the Warner Brothers Eastwood Scoring Stage, in Burbank, CA. With the incredible talents of 90 AFM Local 47 studio musicians, as well as a 60-person choir, the five-part symphony which has been worked on for over a year will finally come to life

Pinar Toprak receives her IFMCA Award for The Lightkeepers
